2 Gallon tank profile: Betta tank
A Betta (a.k.a. Siamese fighting fish) might do best in 5 gallons of more, but my white female Betta seems happy in my two gallon glass bowl with a submersible filter and mini heater (gravel, rocks and various plants). She shares the tank with an unknown number of Malaysian trumpet snails.

Do those come in blue? I'm sure I had a black and blue Siamese fighting fish once.
I remember always seeing these when I visited the fish farm with my grandad. They used to be in a separate room at the back with all the scorpions and snakes, one fish per tank :-)
They are so pretty. I had Japanese fighting fish in an aquarium at a night club in which I wa manager. They were vicious little fish.
What are Malaysian trumpet snails? Do they provide a benefit to the bowl?
I absolutely LOVED my beta.. we have 6 cats and the beta bowl was actually a place where the cats got most of their water. The beta had a similar setup with lots of live plants and a good hiding spot. When the cats came near, he went under the log in his bowl and hid.. he lived with us for almost 5 years!!
Then we took in a new cat. He lived outdoors for the first few months of his life.. he didnt need to hunt for food anymore, but i guess that didnt sink in right away..
4 days after having this cat in our house, our fish was gone, found under our couch headless.. it was so sad, and I was heart broken. his name was Sid. (like Sid Vicious - we had a female in another tank called Nancy)
Anyways.. he was gorgeous..
I do have a question though.. why do you have a heater in the tank?? surely a tank that small doesnt need to be heated for a Beta fish.
I understand filtration and aeration.. but heat?
I don't know if the trumpet snails do much, I just like them :)
I have driftwood in my betta bowl now, she likes to lurk under it :). I put a mini heater in because my apartment can get rather cold. If you keep the house warm it isn't really needed but I am in a studio with a big glass door that just leaks heat!
It must be incredibly relaxing watching an aquarium like that, and it's such a reasonable size, more or less anyone could have one.
Goes to show you, that the puddle doesn't have to be big to be enjoyable. It looks quite relaxing!
I love reading about your fish. We just lost a goldfish in our pond yesterday. We get so attached.
I always thought that fish wouldn't last long in that type of bowl.
